Redcocoon is an approach to designing, sourcing and manufacturing of a clothing line which is both socially and environmentally conscious as well as sustainable. We believes that environmental awareness can co-exist with Fashion. Our processes of design to manufacturing have a minimal amount of carbon emission. With this ethos, Redcocoon has created new opportunities in using Sri Lanka’s apparel post-waste or what some might call “excess”. It will improve and complement Sri Lanka’s ethical manufacturing process. Redcocoon is a low carbon fashion product. It is sustainable and has minimal lead times.
The impact
The Redcocoon collection is made with minimal new processes that harm the environment. By recycling & remaking new wearable pieces of clothing out of “abandoned” garments, fabrics and trims, we take Sri Lanka’s Apparel Industry to another direction in forward integration. Redcocoon is driven by the desire to engage the Industry in the process of re-engineering its “waste” into fashionable, wearable pieces of clothing.
We will also engage schools & young designers in various aspects of creativity, thus not only infusing a constant stream of new ideas to the brand but also creating a positive awareness via fashion to the next generation. They will not only understand that the product has contributed to a rural woman’s livelihood by been treated with respect but also “new” clothing does not need to harm the environment. Thus, Redcocoon believes in engaging social projects involving under developed communities & women.
